URBAN NEST

Home can mean many things. For this young expecting tech couple it was about creating a healthy space for their growing family to thrive and change. To do this, the Clients wanted more light and connection to the outdoors, a challenge in many narrow and steep San Francisco lots. With shared walls on both sides, the solution was to add a series of skylights over the newly remodeled kitchen and entry, with another bringing an abundance of light to a new lower level connected by a new internal stair. The lower level garage and utility space was transformed into a bright and welcoming primary suite, and the building was pulled away from the property line to allow double doors to access the rear yard directly from this new place of rest.
