SOLAR REMODEL

Connecting to Living Systems can take many forms. For this minimalist dream home for a family of 4 near San Jose, the goal was to tap into the abundance of energy striking the mostly unshaded site. A large solar array was installed over the main roof volume, with battery backup for resilience, while an additional array over a new ADU heats the pool. While not actually pursuing certification or testing, the design is a Passive House in disguise, focusing on full cavity cellulose insulation, unvented roofs, proper air sealing, all-electric heat pumps for space and water heating, and controlled ventilation.
